As we mentioned earlier, Treanor was one of eight design teams that participated in last week's Eco Abet Summer Charrette, and provided civil engineering services for another team as well. Each team collaborated to generate solutions for the specific design needs of Kansas City non-profit organizations that cannot afford professional design services.
Treanor's charrette team focused on the design needs of The 816 Bicycle Collective located at 31st Street and Cherry. With the mission of educating and empowering metro residents to utilize self-reliant transportation, 816Bike purchased an older building in a high-traffic, underserved location. The building, although usable, needs repairs to provide a safe and customer-friendly space. The Treanor charrette team recommended necessary building system evaluations, repair/maintenance tasks and a concept design for the group to use during fundraising.
As part of Land 3 Studio’s team, Treanor provided civil engineering services for the Switzer Urban Garden charrette. Operated by the Westside Community Action Network, the garden is located on a reclaimed Brownfield at 20th Street and West Pennway. The Switzer Urban Garden charrette team provided recommendations to improve the garden layout and utilization of resources.
Each participating non-profit was served by two charrette teams. Over the coming days, the teams will reconvene to compare and combine their recommendations and designs to provide the non-profits with one cohesive plan.
