St. Scholastica Hall: Benedictine College

Benedictine College

Community

The new 130 bed Women’s Residence Hall located on the Benedictine College campus was designed to create a sense of community. Community was addressed from the micro to macro levels in the design of the individual rooms and building wings as well as the placement of the facility on campus and it’s relationship to existing residence halls. Based on design charrettes that included students, staff and college administration, it was determined that the best fit for the Benedictine students was a traditional-style double occupancy room layout with community baths. The design hinged around the College’s mission to create a feeling of family across the campus and address the role that the pedestrian plays in campus life. With the addition of a ’light house’ element, the building helps anchor the end of campus and create a visual destination from the cafeteria and student union.
